Sivers and Collins Effects: from SIDIS to Proton-Proton Inclusive Pion Production
نویسنده
چکیده
e + e − experimental data and investigate to what extent they might explain the large Single Spin Asymmetries (SSA) observed in proton-proton inclusive processes. This phenomenological study is performed within the TMD factorization scheme. As the SIDIS data cover only a limited range of x values (x ∼ < 0.3), we allow for different large x behaviours of the SIDIS Sivers functions and transversity distributions. We conclude that, within the available experimental constraints, one cannot observe any clear universality breaking effect for the Sivers functions.

Transverse Spin Effects at COMPASS
The measurement of transverse spin effects in semi-inclusive deepinelastic scattering (SIDIS) is an important part of the COMPASS physics program. In the years 2002-2004 data was taken by scattering a 160GeV/c muon beam off a transversely polarized deuteron target. In 2007, additional data was collected on a transversely polarized proton target. New preliminary results for the Collins and Siver...
متن کاملTransverse single - spin asymmetries in gauge boson production
Transverse single-spin asymmetries (SSA) in inclusive reactions are now considered to be directly related to the transverse momentum kT of the fundamental partons involved in the process. Several possible leading-twist QCD mechanisms have been proposed to explain the available data, in particular the Sivers effect which was resurrected recently. We show that from the measurement of transverse S...
متن کاملParton Intrinsic Motion: Unpolarized Cross Sections and the Sivers Effect in Inclusive Particle Production
We present a detailed study, performed in the framework of LO perturbative QCD with the inclusion of spin and k⊥ effects, of unpolarized cross sections for the Drell-Yan process and for inclusive π and γ production in hadronic collisions, in different kinematical situations. We find a satisfactory agreement between theoretical predictions and experimental data. This supports the study of spin e...

متن کاملSivers vs. Collins effect in azimuthal single spin asymmetries in pion production in SIDIS
Recently it has been argued that the transverse momentum dependent twist-2 Sivers distribution function does not vanish in QCD. Therefore both, the Collins and Sivers effects, should be considered in order to explain the azimuthal single spin asymmetries AUL in pion production in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic lepton scattering of a longitudinally polarized target. On the basis of presently av...
